How do
I gain FTP access to my site?
First, get the best FTP program on the Internet,
which in our humble opinion is WsFTP Le. You can download it at: http://www.ftpplanet.com/download.htm
The WsFTP le version is free to students etc while the FTP Pro has more
features and is not free but only needed if you are a web designer etc.
Cute Ftp is another good FTP program
After it's installed, run the program (double
click on the yellow icon), and then click Add Folder - this is where you
will store your FTP site info. Then click Add Site. In the panel that
comes up, enter a name - call it anything you want - ftp.yourdomain.com.au
Then in Host Address, put: 216.73.114.122 (your IP). (Obviously if the
extension is NOT .com.au - if it's .com or .edu or whatever, you would
use the appropriate extension) In User ID, put your User ID - this is as
above - and then in Password, carefully type your password - I say
carefully because it will be masked, so you won't be able to read it -
this password is CASE SENSITIVE!
Now click OK in the lower
left of the panel, and you will see your domain name in the right hand
panel - highlight it and click Connect - lower right part of panel. If
all goes well, the program will establish an FTP connection with your
site and take you to the htdocs/userid directory. Now click on the
public_html folder This is the right place to put your index.htm file
and all your other web files. This is where cpanel will install the
forum and other scripts for you also. It is an alias for the WWW
directory and is required by Cpanel

SUB
DOMAINS
Make
sure you request the subdomain to be added to our dns first
Before
you can add the subdomain you must email dnsadmin@ezihosting.com to add
the record and enable sub-domains for you- if the dns zone has not been
modified for that record it will not function.
Once
you receive our reply Log into cpanel, click sub domain and follow
the instructions. Remember you will need to set up an ftp account via
cpanel to load your web files for your new sub domain
Delegation of domain name.
If you already owned a domain name, then you need
to delegate this name to our name servers.
The info you need is:
1. your registration key (password) for your
domain name
2. our server information which is:
ns.ezihosting.net - 216.73.96.106
ns2.ezihosting.net - 216.73.98.106
For .com.au names
you can do this here
Ezihosting https://www.ezihosting.com/cgi/register.cgi?action=manage
- if purchased through us com.au’s are automatically
delegated to our name servers
Enetica https://www.enetica.com.au/man.cgi
Melb IT http://www.melbourneit.com.au/maintenance
For TLDs (.com, .net, .org),
you need to ask the organisation you purchased the name from where to
re-delegate the domain name. If
you purchased a TLD from Ezi Hosting you can delegate here https://manage.opensrs.net/
, or if you purchased it from Internet Names World Wide go here
http://www.melbourneit.com.au/maintenance/
If you require help with the delegation make sure
you have the registry key or pw associated with that domain and just
email them to us and we will take care of it for you
We do not charge set up fees and we do the domain delegations free
if requested but we do require a pass word or registry key associated
with the domain in order to delegate, without this we cannot assist or
we will need to charge a $50 fee to help you recover the key or perform
the delegation via a fax authorisation etc
Your domain will appear as normal until our next
DNS update, in about 18 hours from now; at that time your own page will
come up.
If you need assistance with
delegation just email us for help

1. What is FTP?
FTP is File Transfer Protocol, an internet protocol used to transfer
materials over the Internet. It is very fast, very efficient, and very
reliable.
2. What does
"Unlimited FTP Site Updates" mean?
This means that you have access to your site via FTP over the Internet
24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can "upload" files to your
site - in other words, transfer files from your computer to the
EziHosting webserver on the Internet - and you can also
"download" files from your site - in other words, transfer
files from your site on the EziHosting webserver, to your computer.
3. What is the first
step in setting up a website?
The first step is to gain FTP access to your site, and upload the
initial file to the public html directory. This initial file is generally
named index.html or index.htm and it is the web page that will be returned when you
call up www.yourdomain.com
4. How
do I gain FTP access to my site?
Your
FTP address is: ftp.yourdomain.com
Hostname:
Use either IP address as above or ftp.yourdomain.com once delegated
Login
and username as supplied in your sign up confirmation email
If
your new to ftp we have some basic help with links to free ftp clients
here http://www.ezihosting.com/help_section/ftp.htm
First, get the best FTP program on the Internet, which in our humble
opinion is CuteFTP. You can download it at: http://www.cuteftp.com
wsftp is another excellent program.
After it's installed, run the program (double click on the yellow icon),
and then click Add Folder - this is where you will store your FTP site
info. Then click Add Site. In the panel that comes up, enter a name -
call it anything you want - ftp.yourdomain.com.au. Then in Host Address,
put: ftp.yourdomain.com.au. (Obviously if the extension is NOT .com.au -
if it's .com or .edu or whatever, you would use the appropriate
extension) In User ID, put your User ID - this is as above - and then in
Password, carefully type your password - I say carefully because it will
be masked, so you won't be able to read it - this password is CASE
SENSITIVE!
Now click OK in the lower left of the panel, and you will see your
domainname in the right hand panel - highlight it and click Connect -
lower right part of panel. If all goes well, the program will establish
an FTP connection with your site and take you to the htdocs/userid
directory. Now click on the public html folder This is the right place
to put your index.html file and all your other web files. This is where
cpanel will install the forum and other scripts for you also
[-Back To The Top-]
5. How do I
"upload" and "download" files using CuteFTP?
CuteFTP is VERY easy to use, and has a very intuitive, easy to use
interface. The lower left panel is YOUR COMPUTER - the lower right panel
is THE REMOTE SITE - in this instance, your EziHosting ftp site.
Everything is drop and drag - to upload, drag the appropriate file from
the left panel to the right panel. To download a file on the remote
server, simply reverse the process - drag the file on the remote server
- lower right hand panel - over to the lower left panel. Easy!
6. Where do I put the
index.html or .htm file?
When CuteFTP opens the site ftp.yourdomain.com.au, it initally goes to
the root directory - then click on the public html directory. This is the place to put
index.html/ Make sure you do NOT put the file into one of the folders
you see there - put it UNDER those folders. Also put all your pictures
and other files for you site in this same directory.
7. What does
"updating the site" mean?
Basically what a webmaster does is download files from a website,
operate on them and/or change them with an HTML editor such as
Arachnophilia Frontpage or Dreamweaver, and the upload the changed file back to the site.
8. What is HTML, and what is an HTML
editor?
HTML is HyperText Markup Language - it is essentially a kind of
typesetting language, and is used to create images on the web. Our
recommended editor - for creating and manipulating these images - is
Arachnophilia. It is freeware and can be downloaded at:
www.arachnoid.com Read the Help file, practice a while, and you'll pick
it up in no time.
9. How do I set up email accounts with my
domain?
EMAIL
The
system sets up the initial POP3 EMAIL account, which is
username@yourdomain.com
(password as above) Your mail server is: mail.yourdomain.com
Your
main username acts as a catch all email address, which means it will
receive email from anything@yourdomain.com
You log in via cpanel to change it NB you will need to
create a new email address first also via your cpanel account
Note
Until the alpha name begins answering which happens after the domain has
been delegated to our dns servers, use the numerical address for mail
server. We recommend waiting usually for 24 hrs after delegation,
sometimes less. More info on domain delegations below.
Please
do not send large files over 1mb via email. They tend to clog up the
server and besides it is much easier using ftp as below. We have a zero
tolerance level in the area of using our mail servers for mail spamming.
Any site caught spamming will be automatically suspended from service.
We
have two programs to read your email online and send and receive
while traveling etc-just log in on any pc with an internet connection
via www.yourdomain.com/webmail account and chose your desired option and they are both
so easy to use. My favorite one is Neomail.
Or
you can set up your email via Outlook or Netscape etc on your own home
or work computer with the info above-this can be done via cpanel for
Outlook express V6
10. What about Email Autoresponders?
Email autoresponders are very useful in Internet commerce. Essentially,
an autoresponder is a robot which resides on your site, and does one
thing - when it receives an email - from anywhere - with its name on it
- it sends its text back to the source of that email. Uses for these
little robots are limited only by your imagination. Easy to set up via
your cpanel account
11. How do I set up an Email Autoresponder?
Easy to set up via your cpanel account
12. What is an email
redirect account?
These "aliases" are simply lines of code in your HOME
directory which "bounce" emails from one email address to
another. Let's say you have a webpage and you want people to email you,
but you don't want your personal email address to appear on the page.
Solution? Use a forwarding email account. Emails sent to Joe@yourdomain.com.au
(the address shown on the webpage) will automatically be forwarded to joe@personal.com.au
[-Back To The Top-]
13. How do I set
up email redirect accounts?
Easy to set up via your cpanel account
14. How can I
track who is requesting email from my Autoresponders?
You will often want to know who is requesting information from your
various Autoresponders. Tracking is easy. Simply add an additional line
to your Redirect file. Let's say you have an autoresponder called info,
that sends information on your products. Add the following line to your
redirect file:
info you@yourdomain.com.au
Now, the
autoresponder will send the info to whoever requests it, AND the
redirect line will send YOU a copy of the requesting email - so you'll
know who's interested in the product. Great for building a mailing list
of interested prospects!
15. What
is a MailBot or ListServ?
A MailBot is a robot which resides on your site, and which redirects
a single email sent to it, to a list of email recipients. There are
companies out there specialising in setting these up - many of them
charge plenty for it too! With your EziHosting Web Domain, however, you
can set up as many as you like - free via your cpanel account
[-Back To The Top-]
16.
How do I set up a MailBot?
Basically, the MailBot is just a variation on the email redirect
account, covered in (.13) above - all the same rules apply - it goes in
the HOME directory, and you must rename it .redirect - it's thus a file
that is invisible to FTP. Create it with an HTML Editor - NOT a word
processor. It will look like this:
myclub
jim@aol.com.au , joex@ix.netcom.com.au , sally@fugio.org.au , jimmiep@thorn.com.au
, sevent@moet.com.au , bing@crosby.com.au
NOTE: Now
any email sent to: myclub@yourdomain.com.au will automatically bounce
from your domain, back to all the folks on the list above. NOTICE: this
is the drill: From the hard left margin: alias name tab tab email space
comma space email space comma space etc If you alter the list, which you
probably will, to add and subtract members, be sure to maintain the
spaces and commas as shown here.

17.
How do I get a domain name?
It's very easy - you just apply for one. If you want the USA 'com'
'org' or 'net' extension, or if you want the Australian .au extension,
just follow the steps set out under "Domain Names" at the top
of this page. Remember for new clients all our hosting packages paid
annually include
a free TLD domain name for one year.
18. Will
you do the domain name registration for me?
Yes! Just follow the steps set out under "Domain Names" at
the top of this page. We have Australia's lowest prices for domain name
registration. It is easy to do. Note that for the Australian .au
extension several rules apply. Make sure you read the rules and
regulations before applying.

20. Do
you allow "adult" sites?
Yes, but because of legal and traffic considerations, there are a
number of special rules we impose on adult sites. First, we charge
$88/month for sites containing adult content, payable one year in
advance (AUS$1056). Second, traffic is limited to 5 Gigabytes of
transfer per month. Gigabytes over this limit will be billed at $6/Gigabyte. We reserve the right to ask for a deposit for traffic
overage in advance if your site is high volume. Third, all content must
be strictly legal in all jurisdictions; we reserve the right to shut
down any site with no refund for any violation of this rule. We do not
offer refunds on adult sites. We use a special signup form for Adult
Sites. Contact us for more info ezihosting@ezihosting.com
[-Back To The Top-]
21. How
do I get access to traffic statistics for my site?
Very easily - You'll find detailed reports in various formats
on your traffic, including where hits are coming from, at what hours of
the day, month, etc. Also you'll be able to tell which files are being
requested. Essential for fine tuning your web marketing strategy! For
clients with the just log in to your control panel account and go to
tools and voila you have three forms of graphical statistics as well as
raw logs to choose from.
NOTE
excess traffic will be charged at $12.00 AUD per GB per month
[-Back To The Top-]
22. Does
EziHosting really offer unlimited hits?
For
the vast majority of domains, traffic never becomes an issue and yes,
within reason, you should never worry about the number of hits your site
receives, but as a practical matter, no provider can provide you with
unlimited resources for a fixed price. Bandwidth costs money, and
unlimited amounts of it are not available to anyone. Therefore, we set a
limit on the amount of gigabytes
of transfer per month on your domain as stated on hosting packages-
anything over this we bill at $12GBAUD/gigabyte per month We
reserve the right to shut down any site without notice that is in
arrears on payments for overage on traffic. Email, Ftp and http are all
considered as traffic.
23. What
is EziHosting's policy on "spam," or unsolicited email?
The sending of unsolicited commercial email, or "spam," is
strictly prohibited. We have a "zero tolerance" policy on spam,
and reserve the right immediately to terminate without warning any
domain, without refund, that sends out unsolicited commercial email, in
any amount.
24. What
about Microsoft Frontpage 2000?
EziHosting's servers fully support the Microsoft Frontpage HTML
Editor and Publisher. However, there are two ways to approach using
Frontpage 2000. If you want to PUBLISH your web pages to your EziHosting
domain using Frontpage, we structure your domain as a Frontpage domain.
This has some downsides - for example, Frontpage basically takes over
the domain - it disables FTP, and it disables Telnet access as well. In
other words, once you convert your site to full Frontpage - both Editor
and Publisher - ONLY Frontpage can be used to access your domain. Many
of our clients prefer to use the Frontpage Editor only, and then use an
FTP client such as CuteFTP to upload webpages - this is in our opinion
the 'best of both worlds.'
25. Hey I
just checked out my new site - and the counter does not work!!
Almost everything will work on the site immediately; the counter and
a couple of other functions, however, are set to begin working when your
'alpha' name begins answering - if your site is brand new, this will
take 24 to 48 hours.
26. Do
you have an 'uptime' guarantee?
Yes. We guarantee that your site will be up a minimum of 99.9% of
the time. If we fail in any given month, you receive one full free month
of hosting service.
27. Can
you help me with my HTML, webpage, CGI programming, etc?
Time permitting we give advice via email on these issues but
remember, we are providers of webspace and can help you with 'content'
only as time permits.

28. How
do I change my domain over to EziHosting from my old hosting company?
Just forward an e-mail to us and we do the rest. You will receive a
form which you should fill out and return to us. We can then make the
change from your old hosting company to EziHosting. Note we do need a
signed fax authorising us. Email
us for more info
29. Can I
change a password to my email account, FTP account, or main account?
Yes, you can do this yourself easily. Be aware, however, if you
change your password, we will not be able to go in and fix some problem
on your site without your telling us the new password - OR - we may have
to go in and change your password ourselves. To change your password,
open a telnet client such as CRT and go to: yourdomain.com.au You will
log in as a user, say: someuser and you will have to give your password.
Once you're in, type this command: passwd someuser then just follow the
prompts to change the password. For cpanel clients just log on and click
the change password icon.
