Changing ownership of your domain name Print

If you sell your business, you may also have to transfer ownership of your domain name(s). Unfortunately, the rules and regulations set by the governing body auDA make this a little bit more complex than just changing your contact details or transferring the domain name to a different registrar. The most important thing to know is that you MUST have access to the domain’s admin email address. The current registrant (the owner of the domain name and the registered administrator) will receive a confirmation email asking them to confirm the change of ownership. So if you do not have access to this “admin email”, your change of ownership will fail. If you do have access to the Admin email you can proceed. You can change the registrant (ownership) of a domain name by looking at the top menu - "Domains" - "Change Domain Ownership"
